In this action,adventure,fantasy,history,thriller,the movie begins with a narrator praising Odin and describing how a prince destined for Vlahool got his revenge. In 892 AD, a prince runs to tell his mother that his father has returned from North Atlantic war. The Queen welcomes King Aurandil. He meets his Queen and Prince Amleth after his people warmly welcome him.

After greeting his family, the King throws his ruthless brother Fjoolnir a nighttime party. Fjoolnir meets the King, and the Queen gives him her drink after being ordered to, which makes one of the men doubt her. The King calms Fjoolnir and brings Thorir.
In the next scene, Aurvandil tells his wife that he is injured and wants to name his son, Amleth, as his successor, but the Queen worries that Amleth will have to kill his uncle to become king and comforts him. Aurvandil takes his son to the cave, where Heimer worships Odin and the King and Prince become wolves. Heimer tells Amleth the truth, steals his tears, and swears to honorably protect his family. Aurvandil shows his wound and asks to see the Kingdom tree with his blood.
Amleth discovers he will be King. Aurvandil and Amleth leave the tunnel, but Aurvandil is pelted with arrows and orders his son to flee. Amleth hides while Fjoolnir beheads his brother. Amleth hides in the jungle, cuts his nose, and returns to his mother. Fjoolnir kidnaps his mother, and the noseless man claims he drowned Amleth. Amleth sails to avenge his father and save his mother.
After several years, Fjoolnir joins a group that attacks a village and takes control after killing all the defenders. After being locked in a room and burned, all the village children are separated from their mothers, but Amleth doesn’t care because he’s become a merciless killer. Amleth meets a blind witch at night who tells him his fate and orders him to leave the village after he cries.
Amleth hears from a friend that the enslaved will be taken to Iceland’s King Fjoolnir the next day. Friends tell Amleth that Fjoolnir lost his kingdom to Norway’s King Haraldr and is now a shepherd in Iceland. Amleth sneaks into the boat as a slave. Amleth calls the Northman a mysterious girl who helps her friend.
When asked, Amleth tells the mysterious girl he is in Iceland to follow his fate and reclaim what was taken. The girl listens, introduces herself as Olga, and offers his help, saying he can overpower men with his strength and she can play with their minds. Bjoornfulr impresses Fjoolnir and stays with them, while Olga takes over the kitchen.
Bjoornlfr remembers his promise after seeing his mother. Bjoornlfr is driven to watch the guards. His mother brushes his hair when he enters Fjoolnir’s hut. Next day, Olga meets Bjoonlfr and asks about his mother, but the guards find them and take her.
Bjoonlfr follows a wolf at night to a cave where Heimer’s friend tells him how Fjoolnir killed Heimer but left his head, which can talk about the future and past. Heimer tells Amleth about Draugr, his rarest iron sword, to avenge his father’s death on the Gates of Hel after his friend casts a spell.
Amleth goes to the cave to steal the sword from a dead King, but the King’s mummy attacks him. Amleth decapitates the King. Amleth arrives in his village with the sword and sees Olga fighting Fjoolnir. After swearing to haunt Fjoolnir until death, Amleth hides his sword. Next day, Bjoornlfr tells Olga he found his sword to kill Fjoonr and will haunt him until he dies. When asked about his mother, Bjoornlr says he will protect her and possibly Gunnar, thinking she is staying with Fjoolnir to protect her son.
Olga must work again. Bjoornlfr agrees to fight when Thorir asks. Bhoornlfr fights Gudruu. Gudruu kills everyone except Bjjornlfr, but Fjoonr’s son Gunnar gets hurt. Bjoornlfr defeats Gudruu to save King’s son. Thorir calls Bjoornlfr in the evening and tells him he can choose a woman and reduce his workload if he wins the game and shows courage and loyalty.
Olga asks what he will do after having fun. Bjoornlfr will kill tomorrow. Bjoornlfr kills two Thorir’s friends alone on blade feed night. The next day’s corpses frighten everyone. Fjoolnir consoles Thorir.
The elder says a distempered spirit did it with a hungry blade that will return. Everyone sacrifices. Bjoornilfr kills and hangs one of the elder and Fjoolnir’s men. Everyone thinks God chose the sacrifice. Fjoolnir appoints every slave to protect them because everyone fears evil.
Olga poisons the food that night, causing everyone to commit suicide. Bjoornlfr approaches his mother while Fjoolnir and Thorir defend their people. He points his sword at her neck and claims to be her son, frightening his mother. She reveals Aurvandil’s darkest secrets. Fjoolnir’s love made her forget his father’s death. She begged Fjoolnir to kill his brother and Amleth to start over.
She says Gunnar is her loving son who was forced on her. She seduces her son by promising to become his queen if he kills Fjoolnir. After hearing this, Amleth rages and kills Thorir. After killing Thorir, Amleth tells Olga his mother is evil and asks her to leave in the morning.
Fjoolnir mourns Thorir’s heartless corpse the next day. Queen tells him that her son Amleth killed his son and that an enslaved helped. Fjoolnir kills the enslaved until Olga. Before Fjoolnir can kill her, Amleth offers Thorir’s heart for Olga’s death. Olga escapes while Amleth fights Fjoolnir’s men. Amleth surrenders to save Olga, and after Fjoolnir takes his heart’s son, he doesn’t know if it’s Thorir’s or the dog’s heart, killed two days earlier.
Amleth’s heart escapes Fjoolnir’s torture. Fjoolnir leaves, promising to kill him soon. Fjoolnir and his family then sacrifice Thorir’s horse and wife to end their mourning. After the ravens open his hands, a woman rides Amleth.
Olga rescues Amleth from a hot pool. They then discuss how they fell in love before meeting. Amleth marries Olga. Olga and Amleth join Fjoonir’s boat. After a while, Amleth asks Olga about her neck wound and kisses her neck, discovering he will have twins from her.
Amleth realizes that Fjoolnir will always come for his sons after Olga tells him she wanted to tell him after they escape. Amleth regrets running away. Amleth dives back to Iceland. He frees slaves and kills Fjoolnir’s men. Fjoolnir leaves his hut, telling his wife and Gunnar to hide. Amleth kills his mother after Fjoolnir leaves.
After killing his mother, Gunnar dies. Fjoolnir takes their bodies after asking Amleth to meet him at the Gate of Hel. Amleth finds his mother and brother dead at The Gate of Hel after the enslaved burn Fjoolnir’s kingdom. Amleth seeks Fjoolnir.
Fjoolnir attacks him from behind in the smoke. Amleth avenges Fjoolnir. Fjoolnir beheads Amleth by hitting his chest. Amleth dies hallucinating about Olga and his twins.
