In this action, adventure, fantasy movie, Doctor Strange is with Chavez America in another universe. He follows her to Vasanti. The octopus attacks them as they approach the book. Strange fights the creature but fails. Because of her power, he tells her he must kill her. He says it’s for the universe, but she says they’re friends and he shouldn’t do that.

The creature catches him strangling her. America rushes to the book after his attack. The creature catches her as she approaches. She screams, opening another universe, and Strange, who is almost dead, uses his powers to get to her and transport her to another universe.
In that universe, Strange dreams of what happened in another universe. He attends Christine’s wedding. Doctor West complains that he lost his brother and two cats in their fight and mocks Strange for losing his girlfriend at the wedding.
Christine and her husband dance. Strange apologizes, saying he was protecting her. She tells him they couldn’t have ended up together because he had the knife, which she respected but couldn’t love. She says he should be happy because she is.
Strange hears the hall crumble as she leaves. He rescues everyone. He sees an octopus chasing a girl. America is the dream girl he sees. Wong intervenes as the fight escalates. After defeating the octopus, he says he recognizes America, but she escapes.
He finds her again and tells her he doesn’t want to fight her but is there because he recognizes her from his dream. She says it’s not a dream but an alternate universe and she knows him. He feeds her. She claims she isn’t from his universe and he doesn’t know her stomach capacity.
He and Wong doubt her. She tells them she can travel the multiverse, and the octopus works for a witch who wants to take her.
She assures Strange that what he saw last night was real. The other universe fight. She tells them that they found the book of Vishanti the night before, but the strange of that universe betrayed her and wanted to kill her, so she fled to a new universe. She takes him to her morning appearance because he doesn’t believe her.
She shows him that universe’s strange remains. He realizes dreams are another universe. He discards the remains and asks her to join them at Kamar Taj. She asks why she should trust him after he betrayed her, but he says she has nowhere else to go.
Wong asks if it’s the same Octopus and if they know anyone with witchcraft experience. Strange claims to know. Wanda Maximoff dreams. Her dream has two lovely children. She wakes and picks apples.
Strange visits her to learn witchcraft. He denies talking about West. He says he has a multiverse-traveling girl in his fortress. He tells her he took America to Kamar Taj, where all the sorcerers are protecting her, but he wants her to join them.
He walks with her and activates the Dark hold, but she says she’s not corrupted. She gets whatever she wants. She tells him she wants to travel across the universe to find America and her children in the multiverse. He tells her she doesn’t have children and those she’s seen were created by witchcraft, so she should give up her futile search, but she asks for America.
If he doesn’t give her willingly, she’ll come as Scarlet and take her. He reports to Wong in Kamar Taj. They equip sorcerers to fight Wanda, which seems impossible.
Strange greets Wanda. He knows she’s made many sacrifices and deserves happiness, but taking a girl’s life won’t give her that. He refuses her reasonable offer to let him go to a universe where he can be happy with Christine if he releases America. She enters Kamar Taj and destroys all the trainees, but he traps her in a glass house.
She meets Wong, Strange, and America after breaking in. Strange accuses her of fighting for evil because she doesn’t have children, but she says she sees her kids every night and is only doing it as a mother. Strange restrains her from attacking Wong and seizing America’s power. Fear sends America to Earth 838.
After landing, she thanks Strange for saving her, but Strange tells her to activate her power and take them back. Wong tells him she can’t use her powers and needs help. It’s unactivated. He suggests they find her universe, but she says she doesn’t exist in another universe and doesn’t have dreams. They seek Strange’s universe in hopes of assistance.
They walk around and find a memory card where America accidentally killed her parents when she opened a portal. They find Strange’s statue and meet Mordo, the ultimate sorcerer. He welcomes them but imprisons them. Wanda uses the dark hold to reach Wanda from another universe. She approaches the children.
Sorcerer Sara destroys the dark hold to return to reality. She threatens to kill all the Sorcerers unless Wong tells her where to find another copy of the Dark hold, so Wong tells her the original copy is in a forest. Strange and America wake up in a prison with Christine working with them.
Mordo tells Strange they work with the Illuminati and takes him there. The Illuminati tell him they know he is a greater evil than the Scarlet witch and that they could kill the witch but not Strange. He thinks it’s the same strange who helped that universe defeat Thanos, so they tell him the truth. They tell him they were fighting Thanos and strange fought his own way. He created the dark hold and traveled through universes to find a solution until he accidentally destroyed a universe.
He confessed and helped them find the book of Vishanti to destroy Thanos, but they killed him because he was evil. Wong helps Wanda get the dark hold. She fights all Illuminati. While Christine frees America, Strange fights Mordo. Charles, an Illuminati, fails to telepathically pull Wanda from witchcraft. During the distraction, Christine escapes with America and meets Strange, who asks her to take him to the book of Vishanti. America tells her he is different, but she refuses.
She takes him to the Book of Vishanti, but Wanda destroys it before they can take it. She opens another portal in America to throw Strange and Christine in. At the destroyed portal, he meets Strange, who claims to use the dark hold for good.
After talking, he realizes Strange has been corrupted by the dark hold and fights and kills him. He takes the dark hold to see what Wanda is doing to Christine, sees her trying to take her power, and dreams and walks into his dead self in that universe.
He revives and visits Wanda. Wong helps them fight Wanda without asking questions. Wong suggests taking Christine’s power. He visits America and advises her to use her powers. He teaches her to control her power and defeat Wanda.
She loses to Wanda and sends her into her supposed kids’ house with her power. She breaks down when she realizes the kids are scared of her and call her a witch. The kids’ mother assures her they’ll be fine.
She returns to America, and the dead Strange tells America to leave with Wong. Strange and Christine reconcile and see the dark hold burning. He tells her Wanda is destroying the dark hold in the universe.
Later, Kamar Taj repairs. Wong asks Strange how he feels after dreaming he walked into a corpse. He says he’s fine and tries another portal. America thanks him before he leaves.
The dark hold gives him the third eye in the new Universe. At the end of the film, a woman tells him he caused an incursion in another world and must follow her to fix it. Follows her.
